Pendleton and the Fall Creek Valley
Hydroseeding in Pendleton deals with more relief than the farm country around it. Madison County is described as nearly flat except for hilly areas along the White River and Fall Creek, and Fall Creek runs right through Pendleton, west of the town center. The creek was named for the waterfall near Pendleton, and three small falls sit in succession in the 150-acre Fall Creek Park.
Valley slopes
Yards that drop toward Fall Creek or its tributaries, including Prairie Creek, which joins it at the park, can be steep enough to rill after a single storm. On those grades we spray a bonded fiber matrix or lay straw erosion control blankets before or with the seed. On the flat upland, a standard hydroseed lawn mix works.
Keeping silt out of the creek
Fall Creek flows southwest to Geist Reservoir and on to the White River in Indianapolis. During construction on a creek-side lot, silt fence along the downhill edge and fast seeding after grading keep sediment from moving downstream.
Growth on the edges
Pendleton had 3,873 residents in 2000 and 4,717 in 2020, and Interstate 69 runs along its northern border. New homes and commercial sites near the interstate need new lawn installation and erosion control on their slopes and basins.
Historic district yards
The Pendleton Historic District is bounded roughly by Fall Creek and the old rail line. Older homes there more often need lawn repair, overseeding and seeding after drainage or foundation work.
Season
Madison County gets its most rain in July, about 4.3 inches. We plan seeding for late summer and early fall so grass establishes before winter.

Pendleton Questions
Can hydroseed hold on a steep yard above Fall Creek?
Yes, if the slope gets a bonded fiber matrix spray or stapled blankets. Plain seed and mulch is not enough on steep valley slopes.
Do you put up silt fence for creek-side construction?
Yes, along the downhill edge, then seed as soon as grading is done.
Do you work on older homes in the historic district?
Yes. Lawn repair and seeding after drainage or foundation work are common there.
What about commercial sites near I-69?
We seed basins, slopes and frontage with commercial hydroseeding and install sediment control.
